THE FESTAL FAIR.

The bazaar in connection with the Methodist Church was opened yesterday aitemoon by the Mayor, Mr Murdoch, there being, considering the inclement weather, a large number present. Mr Murdoch said that he regretted that Mr Newman, M.P., was uiiaoie to .be present as was anticipated, but the duties oi au xvi.P. were many, especially during the session, and he.ieit sure that had it been possible Mr Newman would have been present. He was eonhdent that the Pair would be successiui, both from an, enjoyment and linaiicial standpoint. ne complimented the ladies on the apperance 01 their stalls, and he Knew wnat a lot oi hard worn each stall represented. He could see some oi those present were anxious to buy, and that the young loik were casting anxious eyes on the ice-cream stall, so he would not delay them, for at the prices marked on the articles they were certainly good buying. The sewihg stall was in charge of Mesdames Barber, Carter and McLaughlan, and contained a grand display of useful apparel, both for the children and grown-ups, which found a ready sale, the prices being reasonable. Mrs Minifie and Misses Quarrie and Swindlehurst had charge of the Sweets Stall, which contained confectionery of many kinds, and did great business with the young folk. The Produce Stall was laden with the products of the-farm - and. garden, while ,th& many boxes of seedlings reminded one of a display at the show. Mrs Stebbins and Mrs Swindlehurst were in charge, and were responsible for many a father taking a cabbage home under his arm.* Mrs Aldersey and Mrs Pete?s had the Jumble Stall, which contained a\ariety of articles, from a stuffed white elephant to a pair of sock's that must have taken much work to make. The Tea Rooms did good business, Mesdames Spring, Brassington, Quarrie and Petit being in charge. Misses Spring (2) had the ice-cream parlour. An Aunt Sally caused a deal of fun, the hoys making many efforts to hit, but with only limited success, Sally being an expert dodger. Mr H. Byers had the sheepguessing, and held forth hopes of free fat lamb to the winner. Many other attractions ' were to be seen, among them the Mystic Parlour, where the sleight of hand and conjuring items were of high order. The Foxton Choir rendered anthems in the evening, Wid a programme of choice items included a duet by Mrs L. Bullard and Miss Evans, which was greatly appreciated.
