ELECTRICITY ON THE FARM.

The Manawatu correspondent of the Fanners’ Union Advocate writes: An interesting letter from the Taranaki district, describes a hydro-electrical scheme there. The Mountain provides ja plentiful supply of water to drive the turbines. Much of the work of transmission lines has been done for several miles around the centre of Kaponga. The power house is being erected and the machinery is arriving in parts, so that as the letter says “farmers will soon have their electric motors running.” Already there is a town supply and twenty farmers are now connected with it, and so satisfactory is the result that those outside f the area are longing to get the current. - The fortunate ones are loud in their braises as to results and say, “there is no noise in the shed, a steadier vacuum and. none of the smell of kerosene or benzine ' which affects the cows.” One even swears (since receiving the current for a fortnight) that his cows are already quieter ai)d giving a better test. What an effect the Mountain has had in Taranaki. Its beauty and dignity attracts visitors, and everyone is proud of it. It brings a plentiful supply of water down its sides in innumerable streams, as in ; winter the moisture is stored in the ice and snow and distributed in summer. It attracts the rain cloiids and they condense and fall in the surrounding district, giving green feed for the > cows and running‘brooks to water them. Its forestclad sides have provided the necessary timber for the farm houses, and firewood to run their factories, and now it is providing the power to drive the factories and the milking machines.
