FAT STOCK IMPROVES.

There was a distinct improvement in both fat sheep and cattle at Tuesday’s sale, which made a rather welcome break after the succession of low prices which have been ruling for weeks past. In fat sheep the best wethers reached 19s, and other good lines to 16s and 17s Bd. In hoggets the demand! was equally keen, and a good range of prices was maintained, the best pens being quittecj up to 14s Id, 15s 2d, 15s 6d‘and 16s. Only two or three lots of store sheep were yarded, being mostly ewes and lambs, but not many sales were made. Store cattle was a little better in price than the bedrock values that have ruled during the Winter and early spring, and generally their condition was better. Still two entries went as low as 10s and 15s, but the 1 bulk of the sales showed an improvement. There was a varied collection’ of bulls in the yards, the quality of some of them being somewhat indifferent, one being actually disposed of for 7s. Some good-looking young Jerseys were also in the entry, and these sold up to £l4. Young dairy stock of Jersey and Jer sey-cross strains met fairly good inquiry. The dairy section was not up to the average quality of the entries usually offering, and moderate rates ruled. There was no competition for') aged stuff or anything that was not in profit or at the drop. Pigs were well represented in all classes, but the tone of the market was quieter than usual, and the sales made 7 were on a par with the figures of a fortnight ago. )
