HOROWHENUA RUGBY UNION.
OTAKI OLD BOYS- CLUB SUSPENDED A meeting of the Union was held last * evening, Messrs. J. W. Procter (chairman), R. George, T. Rowlands, R. H. Ford and V. Higgins (secretary) being present. CORRESPONDENCE. The Wairarapa Union wrote regarding the rep. match with Wairarapa on Saturday, and' submitted the names of Messrs. E. Freeman and A. E. Hall as referee for the game. It was decided to nominate Mr Hall. The secretary stated that the expenses of the team to Wairarapa would be £2 10s per man if the journey were taken by train, and £3 10s by motor, but the train journey would necessitate three days for the, trip. It was pointed out that several of the reps, would be unable 'to spend three days on the trip, and inquiry would have to be made among the players as to who would be available. On Mr Ford’s motion, it was decided that the trip be made by train on the score of expense. Mr Higgins was appointed manager of the team. The N.Z. Rugby Union wrote in reply stating that reserved 'seats for the third test match had been referred to the special sub-committee, which was handling the details of the match.— Received.
The secretary explained that he had made inquiry as to whether some seats could be reserved for the Union. The N.Z. Union also stated that the Kuku appeal had been sent to the Appeal Committee in Dunedin, and the result would be communicated later.— Received. . The Otaki borough wrote regarding improvements to the local ground. At the last Council meeting it was reported that the Union had decided to give Otaki two or more important matches, and with this in view a contract was to be let for the erection of a fence parallel with the touchline. .The goals would also be removed so that there would be a 25 yards area behind the posts.—Received. 1 - AN OTAKI PROTEST. The Otaki Club entered a protest against the Old Boys playing two men, Ahern and Hapeta., on Saturday last, these-players not having been reinstated as juniors. Mr Fogden, captain of the Otaki Club, was present, and stated that his club could have played senior men but refused to do so, and had adhered to Hie rulings of the Union. It was pointed out by members that the Old Boys had played these disputed players on a previous occasion. Mr Rowland moved that last Saturday’s match, Old Boys v. Otaki, be awarded to Otaki, and that the Old Boys be suspended during the pleasure of the Union. The motion was seconded by Mr Ford, and carried. Mr Fogden asked that a referee from the northern district be appointed to officiate in the southern district final between Otaki and Paraparaumu. This was the general wish of the referees in the southern district. The chairman said the matter would be referred to the Referees’ Association, but he thought there would be no difficulty about; the request. PARAPARAUMU PROTEST UPHELD. The Paraparaumu Club wrote that at a recent meeting of the Union a protest was lodged by the Otaki juniors against Old Boys, with whom they played a drawn game, on the grounds that a member of the Old Boys, Taipua, was a senior player. The Otaki protest was upheld, thus giving them the game. Two Saturdays previously, Paraparaumu’s match with the Old Boys, in.which ths disputed player was included, resulted in a draw, therefore Paraparaumu lodged a protest and claimed the game. It was decided, on Mr Ford’s motion, that the match in question be awarded to Paraparaumu. FLOUTING THE UNION.
The Wanderers Juniors wrote that the Union’s decision to prohibit the \Vanderers’ selector, v Pio Htininui, from the Union’s grounds for misbehaviour on the line during the Wera-,roa-Wanderers match on July 30, was a hardship on their club, and asked the Union to reconsider their decision. The secretary stated that HurunuF had played for the Wanderers on Sat- **" urday last against Shannon. The chairman said that amounted to flouting the Union, and Mr Ford moved, and Mr ' George seconded, that Hurunui be requested to attend the next meeting of the Union. OBJECTIONABLE CONDUCT. Mr W. Thomson, referee in the Hui Mai-Kuku senior match on August 13 x stated that Mr Higgins, line umpire, had reported J. Heremaia for refusing to keep back off the line and for threatening behaviour.—lt was decided to write and caution Heremaia. The secretary inquired about playing off the junior fihals and championship. The chairman said the northern district competition had finished, and the
southern championship would be played off on Saturday. The match- between the northern and southern champion teams could be played the Saturday alter. It was decided to play the match Northern Juniors v. Southern at Otaki on Wednesday week.. The secretary said he had written Manawatu with the idea of getting a match with their juniors. It was decided that the senior final, Hui Mai v. Wanderers, be played on Saturday week. OTHER BUSINESS. The chairman stated thdr the local Union should take strong exception to the treatment meteiT out to it by the Manawatu Union over the New South Wales match. A combined team was to play New South Wales, and Manawatu had put off the match without consulting Horowhenua. This was hardly the correct thing. Another matter was that school children had gone up to see the Springbok match, and had to battle for themselves, whilst Palmers-* ton children had seats reserved for them. ' Members endorsed what the chairman said, and it was decided to write drawing the attention of* the Manawatu Union to the complaints. Mr Ford stated that a protest should also be made against the Wanganui Union for refusing to give Horowhenua *a match this season. Wanganui stated that their team was not going to tour, when, as a matter of fact, Wanganui had visited Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa and Palmerston. Wanganui’s attention should be called to the matter. * It was decided to write Wanganui accordingly. * At a meeting of the Manawatu Union last night, the Horowhenua Union wrote asking that the Manawatu junior representatives play Horowhenua juniors, on a date to be fixed by the locdl Union—Agreed to, and September 3 was set down as a suitable date. As all the Horowhenua representatives who were included in Combined team which played the Springboks, had not returned the green and white jerseys loaned to them, the Union decided not to pay their expenses until the missing articles had ben recovered.
