WILLARD HOME BENEFIT.
j APPEAL FOR SOLDIERS’ MEMORIAL At the interval of the pictures on Saturday night, Mr Murdoch thanked Mr McMillan for his generosity in supplying a programme in aid of the , Willard Home, the proceeds of which amounted to £2l. He called for a vote of thanks to be carried by acclamation, which was heartily given. Mr Murdoch further stated that altogether 5 £33 has been raised in cash, and a j large quantity of goods has been donated. He said this result reflected great credit the citizens of Shannon and the energetic committee of ladies who had the matter in hand! Now that an appeal was before them for funds for a memorial in memory of our fallen soldiers, he felt sure ! that they would respond liberally. He blamed himself for not taking up the ' matter of a memorial earlier, but he I had refrained from doing so on acJ count of so many appeals for various objects being made. The returned boys had said that if a start was not made in the matter they would do it themselves. That, would not be creditj able to Shannon, and he asked for | hearty support for the memorial.
