OBITUARY.
HON. J. G. W. AITKEN, M.L.C. The death occurred in Wellington yesterday afternoon of the. Hon. J..G. W. Aitken, M.L.C. The deceased, who ivas about 70 years of* age, and single, was a native of Scotland. He came to New Zealand many years ago, and, with Mr George Wilson, established the firm of Aitken, Wilson and Co., in the Empire City. He was a man ot sterling qualities, and was held in the very highest respect throughout the Dominion. He represented Wellington in- the House of Representatives some years ago. He was also Mayor of the city for a lengthy period, and chairman of the Wellington Education Board. He was one of the most prominent members of the Presbyterian Church in New Zealand, and was the «ily layman who had risen to the distinguished position of Moderator of the General Assembly. A man of wide sympathies, earnest and deep religious convictions, and scrupulous integrity, he was esteemed by all sections of the community. He was a strong supporter of the Reform Party in politics, and was called to the Legislative Council some years ago.o
