RAILWAY CUT.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT. An important announcement of a somewhat drastic cut, especially in the branch line and suburban railway services of both Islands, has been made, says the Hon. D. H. Guthrie, Acting-Minister of Railways. The cut will commence on August 14, and will last till the end of November, unless in the meanwhile * the traffic greatly improves. The high rate of expendi- ’ ture and the decline in railway traf- | fic since April has made the purtail- ; ment of the train service a matter of ( necessity. ! The midday trains between Pal- | merston North and Foxton will be re- , duced to two days a week. The mixed I trains between Woodville and MasI terton will be reduced to three days a | week. The two motor trains between the Lower and Upper Hutt, the 4.45 a.m. Palmerston North to WaipukuI ran, and 11.25 p.m. Wellington to I Johnsonville trains have been cancelled.
