THE SOLDIERS’ MEMORIAL.

APPEAL TO THE PUBLIC. At meeting of. the Shannon Borough Council on Friday evening, Cr. Butts asked how matters were progressing fo£ the soldiers’ memorial. He said he could not help noticing that on going to Wellington, every little place along the line has its memorial. The Mayor said an appeal' was being made to the public for funds, and the subscription lists were now out. It was the intention not to solicit donations, and the people must give voluntarily. That was the true spirit for such a memorial. The ladies, as well as different bodies ih the town, Were' interesting themselves ,in the matter, and all were working together. was under way, and was, ne hoped, going well.
