SHANNON RAILWAY STATION.
OBJECTION TO CONDEMN. The following letter has been forwarded to the Minister of Railways by the Shannon Borough Council:— Dear Sir,—The ■Shannon Borough Council has the honour to point out to you the condition oi the Shannon railway offices and premises. It is wholly a contravention of the Public Health Act, 1920, of Sec. 26, sub-sec. G (3). Sec. 29, of the said Act provides. that the Government comes under the provision of the said Act. The Council is enforcing the Public Health Act in the borough, aud cannot overlook a Government Department and enforce the laws against others.” The section of the Act referred to declares that a nuisance shall be deemed to be created where any lactory, workroom, shop, office,' warehouse, or other place of? trade or busi--ness “is so overcrowded while work is carried on therein, or so badly lighted or ventilated, as to be dangerous to the health of the persons employed therein.” The penalty for the person responsible is a fine of £2O on conviction, and £5 per day during , which the nuisance remains- unabated Ihereaftef.
