ESTIMATE TO BE PREPARED. ‘ Mr I. McGill, of Palmerston North:; waited on ihe Hprowhenua. CountyCouncil to-day and stated, that he hadtaken over Campbell's old place at Koputaroa. He asked what prospecT there was for getting.a road to nib farm, remarking that he had expended a large sum of money -on his place, and \yas anxious to get. a good outlet. 1-Ie added that it was the wish of. the sei tiers io that part of the district to carry ,thc road right; through to Shannon, via Buckley’s, by the present Piaka Road. Tic thought tha! 1 Dot would make a good route, and' the'sdtlers would be willing to form a special * rating district -so that a loan could he raised to carry the road through. The chairman: From Piaka to Buck-, ley’s? Mr McGill: Yes,;’ The chairman' stated that the set- : tiers should get' a petition prepared' for presentation to the Council- and give a rough idea of the cost. 1 Cr. In .reply to .another- question, Mr ✓McGill said he believed the moYe direct and better road could be got along Ihe railway. , . . - The chairman said, he (lid not ihink that the proposed Piaka -extension to Shannon would ever become a mains route, or take, the place of the Ihakora Road. A direct route was the principal thing,-- and if it became a main road there was always a chance of the Government giving s<pme assistance. He would like to «go over the country before expressing- a definite opinion. ‘ In the meantime, the County Engineer ■could'- prepare estimates of cost from Piaka to _ Buckley’s and submit it to the next, meeting. Mr McGill said that would be quite satisfactory.
