HEIFER FOR 400 GUINEAS.

Mr R. Cobbe, of Aorangi, Feilding, has purchased a Jersey heifer for 400 guineas. This is the highest price paid for any cow or heifer of any breed in New Zealand. The purchase was made at the auction sale of Mr E. Griffiths ’ herd at Fencourt, near Cambridge, and for this particular heifer the competition was very keen, especially from Australia. The heifer is named Golden Fern, by Viola's Golden Laddie —Golden Fern’s Maid, and she was calyed in August, 1919. It was due largely to the, success of this heifer in the shows of last season that the record price was realised. Mr Cobbe also, bought the heifer, Viola’s' Queen Bess, by Viola’s Golden Laddie—Noble Queen Bess, for 250 guineas. The' total’ price for the 75 head of cattle was close on £ll;i)00.
