■I POSITIONS OF TEAMS. * Following are the'positions of the Senid# teams and the Northern Junior teams up till Saturday last:— SENIORS.
NOTES ON THE GAME. Bush Union v. Horowhenua at Levin to-morrow. After the deluge of the week-end, the weather prospects for to-morrow are good. There are two withdrawals from the Horowhenua rep. team, Porter and Campion being unable to play. This is to be regretted, as both are showing good form at present. Barber and N. Winiata are to fill the vacancies; If Barber is the Foxtow junior rep. of last year he will have to go some to take the place of a forward of the Campion typej whilst he has neither the weight or experience of R. George and Tana, over whom he has been given preference in the emer-. gency list. , On his play during the last four matches, JNepia Winiata has thoroughly justified his place once more in rep. football. He was the outstanding figure in the Kuku back division on Saturday ,and kicked and handled the greasy ball in capital style. It is doubtful if the selectors have done the right thing in replacing Marshall at full back. Whilst he was of? colour in the match against Manawatu, it was not sufficient to out a player of the resource and ability of the popular Shannon -skipper. His absence from the rep. team should not be a long one. The inclusion of Porter was a popular one, and it is a pity he is unable to take the field. He was a fower of strength to the Hui Mai rearguard on Saturday, when he gave a fine exhibi tion, marred, however, by two “speculators.” One came off, but the other kicked directly into the- charging Kuku forwards, nearly brought trouble. The Hui Mai half made a poor show- - ing o.Ti Saturday, the ball coming from the scrum beating him frequently. 11 allowed the opposing forwards to come round and break away with the ban. *Clark, a rep. of last year, was very safe at full back for Hui Mai, and made few mistakes. Johnson, Tahiwi and Martin were a good trio. The Hui Mai forwards played well considering the solid forward game in the mud, but they did not have the combination of the Kuku pack. Kuku worked in a bunch right through, and their good following up was specially noticeable. Page was always in the picture behind the Kuku forwards. This was Ransfield’s first game for Kuku this season, but he showed he still has plenty of pace. During the game Referee Rhodes permitted Page to place the ball and kick at goal, in which he was success-’ fui. According to the rules this is not correct, the kicker not being allowed to handle the ball. The referee recognised his mistake immediately, arid left it open to Hui Mai to protest to the Union if they wished to do so. During the Hui Mai-Kuku match on Saturday, the referee, had to totop the game on half a dozen occasions to clear the line of spectators. As there were some half dozen Union officials present, it seems only natural that they should take on this duty instead of the referee having to suspend the play.
