A good story is being told regarding a King Country native and the Opening of the shooting season. It will be recollected that the first day of the season this year fell on a Sunday. The native, like a number of pakeha. friends, slipped out before the opening day and secured a substantial bag. The following day he. came to town, and in conversation with a stranger incidentally remarked that he had secured a good haul of game. The stranger was all attention, and asked the native what he did with the birds. The latter replied: “My corry, I plant them. You know, I go out and maked the shoot to-morrow.” “Do you know who I am? ” queried the stranger. “No,” replied the native. “Well,” replied the stranger, “I am the ranger.” “Oh, hell!” replied the native. Then pausing a while, he remarked: “Do you know who I am?” ”No,” replied the stranger. “I am the biggest plurry liar in the King Country,” promptly replied the native. This .story has the merit of being true' A bride who was arranging for her marriage ceremony in a.., district not many thousand miles from Palmerston North, was asked by the clergyman what hymn she would like, as a favourite of her own, to be sung during the service. Instead of selecting such an appropriate theme as “Abide with me,” she announced a decided preference for “Days and Moments Swiftly Flying. ' ' In the course of remarks made at the meeting of the N.D.A. in Palmerston North, Mr J. S. Connett (Bell Block ..Dairy Company) introduced the idea that a school of the dairy industry should be established in New Zealand. He pointed out that at the present time their only authorities came from America, where the conditions were, vastly ■different from here, so that their experience could not be adapted to suit the requirements in New Zealand.
