OBITUARY
MR W. J. BRYANT. Sincere regret was generally expressed yesterday when it became known that Mr W.’J. Bryant, of Manakau, had passed away in a private hospital in Wellington. Deceased had been in ill-health for some months, and laiterly it had been known that very slender hopes were held out of his recovery, an operation haying revealed the full extent of his malady. The late Mr Bryant was 51 years of age ,and was a member of a well known family of pioneers who settled in the Ohariu __ Valley in the early days. A son of the late Mr John 73ryant. he spent his early life in the Valley, and about twelve years ago .-removed to Manakau, where he took up a farm. During his residence oi:j this coast the late Mr Bryant made a' host of friends who were attracted by his sincerity of purpose and kindness of heart. He was so highly respected by his fellow-settlers that he was elect ed to tite Horowhenua Council as a representative of the Otaki Riding, a position from which he stood down at last election for health reasons. Wide sympathy will be felt for Mrs Bryant and her son in their bereavement, especially as within a comparatively short time two other sons have passed away, one giving his life in the war, and the other dying a little later at Manakau. Mrs Monk, of Makara, Mrs H. Bryant, of Bainesse, Messrs. A. and IT. G. Bryant, of Manakau, and Mr Steve Bryant*, of 01m riu, are brothers and sisters of deceased. The funeral lakes place on Saturday, leaving Manakau at 1.30 for Levin.
