ORDINARY MEETING
J The fortnightly meeting of the : Council was held on Friday even- / ing. The Mayor (Mr W. Murdoch) ! presided, and Crs J. n. Fargher, Jas, Richardson, T. Gardner, E. a J. S. Spencer, E. Butt, G. G. Hook and J. W. Murray were present. CORRESPONDENCE. The Shannon School Committee made application for a culvert at the approach to the school.—Referred to Roads Committee with power to do the work. The School Committee complained that the outbuildings bad not been attended to by the sanitary contractor the. recent holidays. It was resolved to refer the compJaini to the Sanitary Committee. In regard to an account received from the sanitary contractor, it was decided that he be asked to submit full particulars of same. A request from the contractor for lighting lor tiie lorry was referred to the Sanitary Committee. The Medical Health Officer forwarded copy of regulations under the Health Act, 1920, dealing wiui the registration by local authorities of lodging houses or eating houses, etc., and asked that the 'Council make by-laws accordingly. On the Mayor’s motion the matter was referred to the. Sanitary Committee to ascertain how far the- Dyiaws comply with the regulations and report to next meeting. The local branch of the Bank of New Zealand notified that from June 2 the minimum rate of interest on ordinary current account of all local bodies would be 7 per cent.—Received. The Minister of Justice replied to the Mayor’s representations for a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court in Shannon that the request would be duly considered, and, if possible, to accede to it.—Received. It was decided, on Cr. Fargher’s motion, that the Health Department, Wellington, be written to in regard to a former complaint which had not been attended to. It was decided to inform Mr. A. Richards that the Council had no objection to his moving his fences in Vogel, Stafford and Grey Streets) provided other owners took steps to conform with street alignment. Cr. Murray reported that he had interviewed the lessee of the recreation ground, who had agreed to remove the sheep from the grounds temporarily "in view of the forthcoming football matches.
