University Senate.

(By Thmobaph.)

AUCKLAND. Feb. 28.

An important discussion took place tbie morning at the University Senate, on the question raised in the memorial from the Auckland University. Sir Maurice O’JBorke moved that degree examinations in arts, science, and senior scholarships, be held in future in the month of December. Conjoined with this was a motion, asking the Senate to abolish the system of degree examiners in England, and to appoint in their place examiners in New Zealand and Australia. The latter motion was withdrawn for the present. After a debate lasting two hours the proposition was negatived by fifteen votes to three votes; the majority of the Senate being averse to any change in the terms or system of examination. Those who voted for the motion were Sir Maurice O’Eorke, Bishop Oowie and the Vice-Chancellor.
