Prohibition League.

WELLINGTON. Feb. 21. At a meeting of the Prohibition League to-night, the chairman said that, in of the decision of the Court of Appeal relative to the Sydenham Licensing Committee, it was necessary that steps should be taken for placing the direct veto on the drink traffic in the bunds of the people. He mentioned that the league now possessed 242 members. Mrs Lodge, of Sydenham, suggested that a public meeting to discuss the question be called, and women asked to address the meeting. Resolutions were passed as follows:—(1) Favouring the female franchise; (2) that cards bn forwarded to members of the league, urging them to induce others to join ; (3) that members of the league bo requested not to vote for any candidate for Parliament who will not pledge himself to give the direct veto of the drink traffic without compensation ; (4) conveying thanks to the Rev. Mr Isitt fur bio services towards the suppression of the evil of intemperance; (5) that the executive bo recommended to send delegates to the various temperance bodies, with a view of securing concerted action in the matter •A member mentiened that a deputation would shortly wait on the Minister of Justice, to urge the suppression of Sunday traffic indulged in by Chinese and publicans.
