Tourist Cycling Club.
SMOKE CONCERT. The smoke concert in connection with the Tourists’ Cycling Club’s sports was bold at the Club Hotel on Thursday evening and was largely attended. Tbe chair was occupied by Mr C. K. Meredith-Kaye, president of the club. Visitors were well represented, some being present from Christchurch, Ashburton, W annate, Oamaru, and Dunedin, and all expressed themselves sorry for the miserable weathsr during the meeting, The to st, list included —“The Queen,” Tho visitors,” “The successful competitors,” Unsuccessful competitors.” and “ The Tourists' Cycling Club,” proposed by Mr Thompson, a visitor, who spoke highly of the way the visitors had been treated, and mentioned that the Christchurch riders, although well back in the handicaps, had the weather been fine, would certainly have won some of the races. Mr Jones endorsed Mr Thompson’s remarks, and stated his intention of visiting them again, when he hoped to have ae good a chance of scoring as ho had this time, except for the terrible gale that was blowing Mr tlbepberd rejponded on behalf of the club and thanked tho visitors for their kindly remarks. During tbo evening capital songs ware given by Messrs Toneycliffo, McGuinness, Niall, Shepherd, Thompson (Pi moor), and others. Ou Friday morning the visitors were taken for a drive in a four-in-hand tooled by Charlie Wheeler, down the main road to the Elgin shire, round the Alpine road through Bcaconsfield, stooping at tbo president’s house coining home making a nice drive round. Ihe visitors all returned home by the various trains on Friday, hoping that they would ail be spared to visit Timaru again next season.
