A Political Skit.
Ihe Hawke's Bay Herald says that as the present Ministry, who have the right to boast of a greater cerebral capacity for solid goodness than any other body of men yet discovered, have been subjected to a great deal of unmerited abuse and opprobrium from a section of the Press and certoin platform speakers, it will be necessary next session to pate an Act “For the better protection of Liberal Ministers.” All attacks are in wretched bad taste—all the Government organs say so, and they ought to know, for they are excellent judges—therefore it follows that we need legislation to deal with those iniquitous persona who refuse to pay homage to Mr Seddou and bis toil, and who persist in saying unpleasant things in vile rags that only exist to vex the souls of patriots and to oppose the said patriots getting their wages increased by special vote of “ our majority.” Our contemporary says that this latest measure of protection should take this form: - A Bill intituled an Act to protect Liberal Ministers from attacks by hired backs and miserable scribblers. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament, and by the authority of the same, ns follows : 1. The abort title of this Act is the Liberal Ministers’ Protection Act, 1893. It shall come into force as soon as possible, and no sooner. 2. Ia this Act, if not inconsistent with the contest,
