Mr Geo, Pearson has some specimens of plume from that quarter which, as far as size goes, practically corroborate Mr Pyke. A lad of 15, named Michael Sullivan, met with a nasty accident last evening. He was felling trees at Mr Hamilton's, Woodlands, and in some way a tree fell upon him, crush* ing one of his upper arms badly. Ho was carefully taken to the hospital, where an endeavour will bs made to save the arm, though from the nature of the injury it is considered doubtful if it can be done. Captain Edwin yesterday predicted a northerly gale between midnight to-day and Saturday. It arrived a day before contract date. All the morning the dull and ragged state of the clouds over the ranges betokened a nor’-wester blowing there, and at 115 p.m, the first puffs reached Timaru of a strong steady hot wind from that quarter, a genuine nor’-wester, of medium strength.. Ihrough the afternoon the cloud over the bill was thick and black, indicating heavy rains up there and on the other side. The quarterly session of the Wai Lodge, 1.0.G.T., was held last evening in their lodge room, Cullmanntown, Bro< R. W. Marshall, 0.T., presiding. After the usual preliminaries one candidate was proposed. The following officers were then installed 0.T., Bro, E. W. Marshall; V.T., Sister I. Millar; S. P., Sister 0. Shaw ; T., bister J. Mihs ; F.S., Sister 9. McCullough ; M., Bro. E. W Marshall ; D.M., Sister A. Bock j S,, Bro. A. Mills ; G. Bro. W. Torrance. After the election of a Grand Lodge representative, the lodge went into harmony, when several of the sisters and brothers contributed songs, ably and efficiently accompanied by Sister Book on tbe organ. Votes of thanks to the installing officers and visitors brought tbe session, which was a most enjoyable one, to a close.
