Members of the Foresters’ Lodge are notified that the annual meeting takes place on Tuesday evening next, at 7.30 p.m. The Matron of the Hospital desires to thank Mrs Clarke of Butler Street, Mrs Shapper®, and Mrs Hart, for old white linen and reading matter for patients use. There is now on view in Mr Hutton’s shop a brush and pen drawing by a youth of Timaru, Mr J. B. Robertson, which is probably the best bit of work of its kind ever seen here ; and if genius is properly defined as infinite capacity for taking pains, this may be said to be a work of genius. It is on enlargement from a photograph of a picture containing eight parrots in various attitudes, with their stands and some foliage, and a dead wall for background. The drawing of the birds and foliage is excellent. The shading of the birds is weak, but if we remember right that was also a defect of the original picture. Ihe foliage is well ebaded. The feather markings ond the stippling of the background are remarkable for their evenness, and altogether it is an achievement of skill and patient industry that the young artist and his friends may well be proud of. The -Wuitara Freezing Company have published the following particulars relative to the cost of sending poultry to England The total charges for freight, primage, freezing j and insurance on poultry will be 2d per lb on the gross weight, including the esse, as that will require freezing too. This does not include the cost of package nor of paper to wrap them in, but it does include the cost of packing. All the poultry is to be delivered at Waitira plucked, drawn, and ready for freezing. Wo will prepare packages and charge cost only. The charges cover all expenses up to the arrival in London. For distributing them there it will be necessary to appoint an agent, who will make his own charges 5 we cannot fit that here. If sent to arrive about May good prices will bo realised j it is expected as much as 4s and 4i 6d a bird. Highly Recommended for invalids and Delicate Children—Aulsebbook’s Oraoknell, Digestive, aud Arrowroot Biscuits.—[Aim.]
