(By Telegraph.)

WELLINGTON, Fbb. 10, The fourth annual championship meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association which begins to-morrow afternoon is likely to be very successful, provided the elements are favourable. A high nor’-weat wind is blowing to night and Captain Edwin predicts that it will continue over to morrow, though he does not anticipate any rain. Even with a high wind attendance on the Basin Beserve to-morrow will be unpleasant, as clouds of dust will pass over the centre of the field. Broad and Sharland of Christchurch will be absentees, as well as Oarcy of Masterton, who was burnt oat last night. With the exception of the 100yds and 120yds hurdles all the races will be decided on the track which is 440 yards incircumfarfli.ee The turf is in very fair conditon, and Mr Grierson, a representative of the N.Z.A. A.A., expresses himself well satisfied with the ground. On the eastern side, opposite the stand it is a little uneven especially at the south-east corner. The last of the competitors arrived to-day. During the week a good deal of work has been done, and each evening there were large numbers of spectators present. To-night work was restricted to starting exorcise. Poetlethwaite, of Timaru, the crack hurdler, is in Queer street baring, he says, been stung by an insect during a visit to his friends at Ohau, a small village on the Manawatu railway line. His leg is very much swollen,, and it is ex'remely doubtful if he will see the post. Sharland, Broad, and probably Nathan, of Wellington, will ba absent in (he 100 yards, in which case the race will bo run in one heat instead of two as arranged. The Canterbury Amateur Athletic • Club is looked upon as the probable winner of I the Association banner, with the Wellington Club a good second.
