The Gazette.
(By Telegraph.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 9. To-night's Gazette contains a copy of regulations for the preservation of peace and good order in Samoa, and of a despatch with reference to the protection of British subjects and their interests in the New Hebrides and the Western Pacific. It is announced in to-night’s Gazette that Sir Walter Buller, who has been appointed a Governor of the Imperial Institute, will be pleased to give every information to intending exhibitors. A return of the number, tonnage, and crews of vessels cleared inwards and outwards at the several ports of the colony during tbs year 1892, shows a substantial increase on the returns for the previous year.
Daring the last month eighteen estates of deceased persons were placed under the charge of the Public Trustee, their values ranging from £1 to £6OO. The total estimated population of the colony, exclusive of Maoris, on the 31st December, 1892, was 692,426- The increase during 1898 was 16,375. the excess of births over deaths beirg 11,417, and the excess of arrivals over departures 4,958,
