The Legislative Council has inserted a j property vote in the Electoral Bill on condition that the two votes are not exercised, in one electorate. The Assembly has rejected the second reading of the Totaliaator Bill by 33 to 26. NEW ZEALAND. (By Telegraph.) FAHIATUA, Feb. 8. A man named Aldridge, alias Smith, who his been arrested in Melbourne for larceny of goods belonging to hie mate Jacobsen, ia a widower, with three children, who resided at Banevirko until- about two ‘ years ago. He will be charged with murdering Jacobsen when be is brought back to Fahiatua. Constable Cooper leaves for Melbourne on Friday next to identify Aldridge. The men were engaged in bush-feliing on Mr Ham* brook’s pronerty at Tutaikara, when Jacobsen disappeared. Brer since foul play had been suspected, and a few weeks ago Jacobsen’s remains were found by Constable * Cooper and an acting detective who had been tent up to investigate the case. The dis> covery was kept secret until Aldridge’s whereabouts wereasoertained, when a charge' of larceny was preferred against him, evidence having been obtained of his disposing of goods known to have belonged to Jacobsen.
