Angus Sutherland is equipping a private expedition to explore the unknown regions of Australia on the tracks followed by Goase and Giles ; also to search • for relics 61 Leichhardt. He is in hopes that the Royal Geographical Society will se-operate with him. REFUGEE JEWS F()R THE j COLONIES. The Jewish Charitable Society is send- ■ ing 400 refugee Jews to Australia this week. They will be followed by a larger contingent in a month,REVOLT. Buenos Ayres, Feb. 7. Three thousand settlers of Santa Fe have revolted against the wheat tax imposed by the Argentine Government. HAWAII. Washington, Feb. 7. It is believed that the President will wait for information from Hawaii especially as to Great Britain’s attitude towards the New Government, before the final decision of Congress on annexation, THE GILBERT GROUP. Mr Daly, the Ammerican Commissioner for King Tuburiemo, has forwarded to the American Government a protest against the British flag being hoisted over the Gilbert Group, and asking the United States to annex the islands. PANAMA SCANDAL. Paris, Feb. 7. It has been elicited that the Panama Company spent 3,500,000 dollars in America in obtaining subscribers to loans. (Received 11 a.m., Feb. Btb.) The indictments against MM. Rouvier, Deves, Grevy and Renault in connection with the Panama Canal disclosures have been dismissed. Senator Berat and MM. Pcovis and Fanconneries, members of the Chamber of Deputies, with the directors Dahiant and Sans Leroy, have been ordered to stand their trial at the next assizes. '
