A general strike of coal miners throughout England will take place on Ist December, unless matters in dispute between musters and men can be settled in the meantime. ObituaryThe death is announced of Count Frederick De Legrange, a well-known patron of the turf, aged C 7. (Received Nov. 21, 1883, 1;10 a.m.) Commercial. The total reserve in the Bank of Bngand in notes and bullion is £12,700,000, an increase of £300,000 compared with last week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities remains at 43 per cent. The Bank rate of discount is unchanged at 3 per cent, the market rate is 2. Consols have advanced, to lol|. New Zealand securities remain at last quotations. The wheat and tallow market are without quotable change. Kauri gum, best selected transparent is quoted at £l4. Wool. At to-day’s wool sale the catalogue comprised 9100 bales. The tone of the market was again firm. Coarse crossbred wools are now rather higher than at the close of last sales. The with-
drawals since the opening of the present series amount to 2700 bales, out of 28,900 catalogued.
