THIS EAT. (Received Deo. 28,1882,11.45 a.m.) Wreck of the Steamship New England, „ Six Lives Lost. Seven Others in Danger. Sydney, Dec. 28. Latest telegrams from Clarenpe report that six persona have been drowned through the wreck of the steamship New England. Seven still remain on the vessel. Twenty-eight have been rescued, but it is supposed that there were twelve others unaccounted for. A terrific sea is running at the Heads, and the position of those still on the vessel is most critical. The catastrophe has caused great consternation at Clarence. [Received Dec. 2S, 1882,10. a.m.] Lucky for Depositors. , Melbourne, Deo. 28. The Associated Banks have raised the ra'e of interest on deposits by one jocr cent, but the lending rates are untouched.
