CANTERBURY V. AUCKLAND. [Bv Telegraph.] [Special to “ S.O. Times.”] Christchurch, Dec. 4. The match between Canterbury and Auckland was resumed shortly before 1 o’clock. The weather was bad, drizzling rain falling. Tnere was a good attendance. Auckland, with 6 wickets down for 91 runs, and 40 to get to give them the advantage on the first innings, sent in Yates and Gardner, the not-outs, of yesterday, to the bowling of Fuller and Frith. Mr A. E. Whitaker had offered a bat to each of the remaining Aucklanders who made 28. Yates and Gardner commenced to score quickly, hitting well over, the ground. The score had reached 128 when Gardiner, after making 14, was run out by falling in the centre of the wicket, Yates was caught by Harman off Frith’s next ball. 8—28—128. Dufaur, the next man, bowled off pad after making 3. Gill, the last man, went in with the score at 136, and Lankham, knocking the bowling of Frith, Ashby, and Barnes about freely, ran up 28 before he was caught by Fuller in theslips off Wilding’s first ball. Gill carried h ! s but out for 2. The innings closed for 162, giving Auckland a majority of 32, Lankham and Yates having made 28, win the bats from Whitaker.
