The cricket match between a New South Wales Eleven and tbo English team was resumed t'j-day. The weather was fine, and thove was a very large attendance of spectators. The Englishmen continue,d their first innings, the not-outs of the previous day, Barlow and Leslie, resuming their places. Both players made a splendid stand, und runs came very fust. Leslie was finally caught when he had put together 144, and Barlow followed with 80. C. T. Studd was bowled for 23, and Bates was oaught and bowled for 30. There are now 6 wickets down, and the score
stands at 283, as against 162 scored by ' the local men in their first innings, I (Received, Dec. 3, 1882, G p.m.J ' At the close of the day’s play tho . Some 4000 persons were present on tho Christchurch cricket ground on Saturday, and tho play between the Aucklanders and the local men was close and exciting. The Christchurch men were first in, and scored 130, of which Reeves contributed 48. Laukham, a howler for Auckland took 7 wickefe. When the stumps were drawn in the evening, the Aucklanders had scored 91 for six wickets, so that the play is even. Rain came down in the night, however, and continued, and the consequent state of the ground may upset all calculations. The following are the scores : Canterbury—First Innings.
