A delegation of Basuto chiefs had an audience of the Hon. T. K. Scanlan, the Premier to-day. No understanding was, however, arrived at. The situation is unchanged and the prospect of a peaceful settlement of the native difficulty is considered gloomy. Destructive Eire. Ottawa (Canada), Nov. 7. A serious fire occurred to-day at Halifax, Nova Scotia, The workhouse and)“the hospital, attached to the building, were destroyed, and thirtyone invalids perished in the flames.
