THE TUG TITAN.
[To the Editor.] Sir,—l have, from time to time during the last few weeks, seen.letters from a person (I should hope there can be only one of his sort in Tiinaru) re the tug Titan. As the subject is one which naturally interests every one having his lines cast here, allow me to suggest that the said tug be utilised, with a proper crew (say of four experts in the business), to supply the city with fish. Of course I only mean the fug to he used in this way when she is not required for other purposes. Ido not claim this idea as original. I lived for a considerable time on the coast of New South Wales, at a place called Catherine Hill Bay, and every day upon which it was possible for the tugs to bo away from Newcastle, there were from one to four of them down fishing opposite my door, “ 25 miles ” from Newcastle, waiting for ships, and at the same time puying a largo percentage of their expenses, by the sale of the fish they caught. I know they very often sent very large quantities of fish to Sydney, besides supplying Newcastle. Why should the tug lie idle for weeks, here, costing a large sum to keep her, when we have the example of such a place as Newcastle, showing us how to make our white elephant, as I heard her called the other day, earn her own living ? I know there is a grand fishing ground somewhere near us as I have it from the Maoris, and as I converse with them in Maori, I know their statements can be relied on. Another thing seems possible to me, advertise Saturday afternoon fishing trips, and I firmly believe they would be' taken advantage of by a very large proportion of our fellow citizens. This of course not to interfere with her general work. Surely anything is better than the idle weeks she has experienced lately.— I am, &c., - Multdm in Parvo. :
