SUPREME COURT.
[By Tmbobaph.j . Wanganui, Oct. 24. The half-yearly silting of the Supreme Court opened yesterday, before Judge Richmond. The calendar was a light one, including three charges of larceny, one against,-a Native for wounding, and one against another Native for forgery. His Honor in his charge to the Grand Jury, referred to forgery as the favorite offence among Maoris, which presented a singular mixture of simplicity and art. The grand jury found trpe bills in all cases, except that against the native prisoner Pohni rana, for cutting and wounding, in which no indictment was presented, as the prisoner demanded a Maori jury, and the means for drafting such are not aTrailnViln at ttrpapnt. For larceny, John Williamson was senlenoerl to four months, Herman Wisner to 18 months, and Win, Higgins (an old offender) to four years. Scriiula Mahina pleaded guilty to a charge of forgery, and was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment.
