Inspector Pender conducted, the prosecution, and Mr Reid appeared.for; the accused, who pleaded '■ not guilty."' Mr Reid, at the outset, took exception to the depositions taken at the recent Coroner's inquest being received as evidance ; and to a good deal of evidence) then admitted, as being only heresay. His t Worship decided to ’have the evidence read in the , pifesence ’of each deponent, and the depositions (already published) were thereupon read over.
