WAIMATAITAI SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the Waimataitai School Committee was held at the residence of Mr Bowie, last night. All the members were present, Mr J. Lukey in the Chair.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read, and on the motion of Mr Barber seconded by Mr Bowie, were confirmed.
The, Master’s report was read, in which be shewed that there were 110 on the roll, and during his mastership there had been an average, attendance of 921, the highest attendance being 95v The/average for the ending September 30, was 75. Mr Walker in his report also laid stress upon the fact that something should be done, and without delay, to provide more space for the rapidly increasing attendance. Ho has now to refuse new scholars, as an iricreased attendance would be likely to impair the health of the pupils. ' A statement of accounts was then read: by the Chairman and certain, accounts were passed for payment upon the proposal of Mr Lewis, seconded by Mr Hobbs. ‘ A letter was read from Mrs Hiskins stating that she did not understand why the “ school money” should be as much this month as last. 1 , With reference to the above, it was proposed by Mr Lewis, seconded by Mr Blackmore, and carried —“That the Chairman write, to Mi's Hiskins explaining, that as there wasnot sufficient contributed by the children to pay the rent last month the Committee bad to' make up the deficiency themselves.” - Proposed by Mr Lewis, seconded by Mr Hobbs, and ! carried— 1 “ That; Mr Sinclair’s ’ account of £5, and Mr Rutherfords account of' £2 5s forwarded to the Board of Education together with account for shiugle for present school.” Proposed by Mr Blackmore, and carried “That a letter be written to the late master, Mr Wilson, conveying, the thanks of the Committee for the very efficient manner in which he opened the new Waimataitai school, and expressing a hope that he will be successful in obtaining an appointment.such as his undoubted abilities deserve.”
Proposed by Mr Barber, seconded by Mr Pringle, and carried—“ That Messrs Lewis and Blaokmore be elected visitors for the month,” Proposed by Mr Hobbs, seconded by Mr Bowie, and ( carried—“ That the Chairman be requested to write to the Board of Education pointing out the urgent necessity of a new and suitable building being erected owing to the rapid increase in the number of scholars and pointing out the very limited ap-. commodation of the, present temporary building. . - Proposed by Mr Bowie, seconded by, Mr Barber, “ That the visitors, Messrs Lewis and Blaokmore, meet the Inspecter on the occasion of his visit to the school on Tuesday next with a view to calling, bis earnest attention to the urgency for erecting new school buildings as soon as possible. After a vote of thanks to the Chairman the meeting terminated.
