CUMBROUS APPLICATIONS' FOR LAND AT HAWERA.

Hawbba, Sept. 8; No less than 476 applications for land have been made, some of which are ini formal. The informality in most cases has been caused by the persons wishing to apply not' having obtained the necessary declarations before a Justice of the Peace. In some cases it is understood that there is a doubt whether the applicants are all of statutory age, viz., above the age of 18 years. , The total •cash received at Hawera with the applications was £7599 8a lOd, and at Patea, £625 Bs, making the gross total deposits £8824 16s lOd. There were several sections, both in the native village and settlement land, for which there were no applicants. Several persons applied for more than one ’section, in which case only one application can be regarded as in order.
