(Per Press Association.) Fire. Christchurch, Sept. 4. Mr King’s Furniture warehouse in Cashel street was destroyed by fire this morning. The insurances on the building occupied by King, which is completely gutted, are £SOO in the Standard office. King’s stock of furniture was insured for £IOO in the Standard office. Both these policies will expire to-day. Two billiard tables and furniture belonging to Mrs Tribe were destroyed in the room over King’s shop. It was insured for £4OO in the Transatlantic office. Theodicy expires in September. Mr Doherty, tobacconist, estimates his loss at £SO, not insured. Mrs A. E. Thomson, the armless lady, who was proprietress of the learned pig, estimates her loss, including the pig at £SOO. and is not insured. Mr King and Mr Hulbert’s stock* were much damaged by removal. Died in Hospital-

James Service, a butcher, who accidentally cut bis thigh while killing pigs on August 11, died at the hospital today.

Licensing Meeting-, The quarterly sitting of the Licensing Commissioners for Christchurch South was held to-day Fifteen applications were made for extension of licenses from 10 p.m. to midnight. Seven were granted and the remainder were refused. A transfer of the license of the Borough Hotel from Michael McGovern to John Barrett was granted. Barrett was the licensee of the hotel at the time of the assault on the Orangemen in front of the hotel some years ago.

O’Connor’s Supporters Dissatisfied' Dunedin, Sept. 1.

O’Connor's supporters are dissatisfied with the result of Saturday’s race and are anxious to hare the match run again. A match will probably be made to-night to be run off in about a fortnights time. A good deal of money has changed hands.
