Public Works- ‘ Sydney, Sept. 2. In the Legislative Assembly last night the Minister for Public Works announced that the Government had. entered into an agreement with a privatecompany for the erection of a high-level-bridge between Sydney and the North Shore, subject to the passage of an Act
Big FireSept. 3. An extensive fire broke out early this morning in Clarence street on the premises occupied by Messrs X). Mitchell and Co., wholesale grocers, causing the total destruction of the building and stock. The insurance amounts to £18,300, of which £4OOO was upon the building and £14,300 upon the stock, and is divided among various offices. The loss is estimated at fully £20,000. Committal of O’FarrellMelbourne, Sept. 2. O’Farrell, the assailant of Archbishop Gould, has been committed for trial, bail being refused.
