The House met at noon. The Wellington Cemeteries Bill was read a second time on the motion of Mr Levien. Eeplying to Mr Joyce the Hon W. Eolleston said the lease of the Auckland Isles was determined three years ago, and Government did not propose re-leasing them. Eeplying to Mr Bracken the Hon W. Eolleston said in view of the resumption of immigration Government was favorably disposed to the establishment of a system of labor registration and would he glad to confer with members on the subject. Eeplying to Mr Major Atkinson said the returns required by Government from the Friendly Societies and district lodges were returned. That every well constituted society ought to be provided for in its own interests, Government would not, therefore, be prepared to pay for these returns. Eeplying to Mr Seddon, the Eon. W. Johnston said inquiries would be made, and if a daily mail could be provided for Portobello, on reasonable terms, it would be dope. On the motion of the Hon. Mr Johnston, it was agreed that the House resolve itself into Committee to consider the motion re direct steam communication with England, in Committee of the whole.

The Roads and Bridges Construction Bill was introduced by message from the Acting-Governor and read a first time.

The Native Reserves Act Amendment Bill was further considered in Committee. The House adjourned at 1 o’clock till two.
