THE STEAM TUG TITAN.
At noon yesterday this long-looked-for tug crept into port, taking every, body unawares, as on Saturday no news had been received of her leaving Lyttelton. She left at 7 o’clock on Saturday evening; and, owing to a heavy sea and head winds, her run down was not a smooth one. Her compasses being out of adjustment, too, she made a somewhat longer detour than was necessary. Her machinery, her beams and bits, and portions of her bulwarks, have been repaired and renewed. Captain Dunsford’s recommendation that she should be re-decked, has not been carried out; as she appears not to stand in urgent need of so great an expenditure as this would .entail. Captain Bascand’s opinion as expressed to our representative a week or two ago, is unaltered, viz., that the Board have done well in purchasing this boat. Her appearance is reassuring, at any rate.
