On Monday last the schooner Elizabeth Curie, 79 tons, bound from Lyttelton to Auckland, went ashore at Cuvier Island, near the Great Harrier, and became a total wreck. No lives were lost. It appears that when off the'island the wind died away, and the vessel drifted towards the shore Forty-five fathoms of cable were run out, but did not hold,, and she went on to the rocks. The crew went ashore in, the boat, and after repairing it returned to the site of the wrieok, and found the vessel had entirely disappeared, They then proceeded to the Great Barrier and took in provisions, and arrived at Auckland after a; passage of 36 hours. She. belonged to Mr F. Jenkins, of Lyttelton, and £4OO was just spent in repairs. „ The vessel was insured a-T follows South British, £250 ; New Zealand, £275 ; National, &2SO; Union, £IOO. The freight was insured for £75.
