It. appears that the fire was discovered in the house during tjie afternoon, a spark or something having burned a hole through the carpet. -It was put out to all appearances, and the place was deluged with water. When the inmates retired to j rest all appeared safe, hut at 1 a.m. they were awakened by the jilace being in flames, and had barely time to escape ■ With their lives. Morling’s beard was utterly burned' off before he got out. The cottage is insured in the South "British office for £IOO and the furnitun for £25.
