LEVELS ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Board was held yesterday. Present—Messrs Moody (chairman), MoKerrow, Sullivan, Mee, and Frew. ’ The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. OTIPUA WARD. ; The Clerk laid before the meeting a return of the rateable property in the suburban district of Otipua Ward. . Proposed by Mr McKerrow, seconded by Mr Mee, and carried—“ That the attention of the ratepayers in the immediate vicinity of the town be directed to the total amount of rates collected by this Board,’arid as under a sixpenny rate the gross amount only reaches £234 8s 3d, it is self-evident that if necessary improvements are to be made, some other means of raising revenue must be devised than this Board is able to undertake.” THE HARBOR WORKS. A letter from the Harbor Board was read, enclosing a circular re raising a loan. Eesolved —“ That the Levels Eoad Board assent to the proposal, and trust that every effort will be made to finish the work vigorously and economically.” Resolved Gladstone be advised that the construction of Iris Bill as regards the number of members for Timaru in the new Harbor Board Bill is in excess of what is fair and resonable, and trust that an alteration will be made distributing the representation more equally, and suggesting the following as the number‘—Tim&ru, 4 ; Levels, 2 ; Waimate, 2 ; Geraldine, ! ; Tetnuka, 1 ; Mount Peel, 1; Mount Cook, 1” The Overseer’s report was received and adopted. ; . EXPENDITURE. Moved by Mr Mee, seconded by Mr Snllivan, and carried—" That the Clerk lay before the next meeting a return showing the amount of money expended in each; separate ward, such return to include the years 'IBBO and 1881, and up to present date.” 1 MAIN NORTH ROAD. ' Mr McKerrow moved, and it was carried—“ That the Clerk report at next meeting the probable cost of widenmg the road near Mr Perry's, to the full chain width.” TENDERS,. Tenders were ordered' to be called for shingling a portion of the PointTemnka road. The following tender? were accepted:— Contract Ho. 34, G. Crozier, £SO; Ho. 35, G. Crozier, £3B 7a; Ho. 36, G. Crozier, £57 10s; Ho. 38, W. Stevenson, £35; Ho. 39, R. Forgan, £3B; Ho. 40, J. Cartwright £134195. Tenders for Ho. 37 being top high were ordered to be called again. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £37s 13 5d were passed, and the Board then adjournpd.t.
