WASHDYKE.
A most enjoyable" concert was held in (he schoolroom last evening. About 7 o’clock quite a procession of vehicles, conveying a good number of musical amateurs, left the Bank of New Zealand corner for the Washdykc. In spite of the inclemency of the weather the room was full, and the performers had no reason to complain of inattention or lack of enthusiasm on the part of the audience. Mr W. Balfour, Chairman of the School Committee, presided, and introduced the performers. Mr Muller contributed one or two items of “ bianoblayin ” in his customary good style. Mr Walcot sang with great effect two excellent songs, ' which were both redemanded ; though, owing to the late ness of the hour, he abstained from responding. Mr Warrington’s fine voice made an excellent impression, and the Tonic Sol Fa Class contributed two glees in bright spirited style. Mr Buiat gave a Scotch reading, which deservedly won hearty applause, for it was perfectly natural. Mr Andrews was equally happy in his reading which won for him an encore, to which ho responded. Mr and Mrs Foster sang as usual with taste and correctness, and Mr Foster contributed “ The Arab’s Farewell to his Steed ” in capital style. Miss Bambridge and Miss Warrington rendered their songs with taste and expression, and Miss L. Ball’s services as accompanyist were highly appreciated,as were those of Mr Walcot, jun. The’’meeting did not disperse till a late hour, but up to the close of the entertainment the audience manifested a keen appreciation of the good things provided. The Chairman and those assisting him were indefatigable in their efforts to promote the comfort of the visitors, and everybody spent a delightful evening.
