LITERARY AND DEBATING SOCIETY.

The annua! meeting was held last evening in the Mechanics’ Institute Hall, Mr J. Scott (President) in the chair. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted, pnd the officers for the ensuing year were then elected : President, Mr James Scott; VicePresidents, Messrs H. W.|Hanunond and \V. Davidson ; Secretary, Mr George Gordon ; Treasurer, Mr L. G. Reid ; Committee, Messrs R. B. Taylor, 0. S. Fraser, M. De H. Duval, D. Stuart, and J. Kirby. After some discussion of the rules, it was decided to hold the meetings in the Sophia street Hall as before, and the meeting terminated. Mr B. Wakefield will deliver the inaugural address to-morrow evening, at ♦lie Oddfellows’ Hall, Sophia street. There will be a charge of one shilling each for admission, and the proceeds will go to the Belief Committee.
