FIRE AT INVERCARGILL.

, [By Telegraph.] Invercargill, May 18. At 11.30 last night afire broke out in Gallagher’s bakery, Deo street. Some time elapsed before the Fire Brigade arrived on the spot, and. the fire having obtained a good hold, it was feared a large block of buildings would bo destroyed! The night, how ever, was comparatively calm, and by the judicious application of w r ater the fire has been confined to the bakery. The wildest excitement prevailed, but there is scarcely any probability now of i the fire extending. Galagher’s bakery adjoins Sloan’s theatre.
