WAIMATE.

The School Committee met on Thursday evening. Present— Messrs Steward (chairman), Sinclair, Goldsmith, Hughes, and Dr Chilton. The correspondence was read, noted, and dealt with. It was stated that 40 forms'of “ summons to send children to school ” under the Act, had been sent out, with tho result that most persons on whom such had been served had sent their children to school. It was decided to continue enforcing attendance. The Chairman explained tho position of tho Committee as to the sale of sections, and erection of new buildings. Miss Brown, the third teacher, resigned her position, and it was resolved—“ That Miss Brown’s resignation be accepted, and the Board apprised thereof, and that tho Board be asked to call for applications for the office of third teacher—applicants male or female.” Tho following resolutions vvere also passed:—“ That the sum of £1 ho applied by tho Secretary to supplying pens, eto., and that the Master be instructed to guard , against the loss nf pens and school requisites by the children”; “That tenders bo invited for tho supply of black piuo firewood

At the RAT Court yesterday, Sarah Agnew, charged with drunkenness, pleaded not guilty. She was discharged with a caution, having behaved herself for fifteen months, previously. John McCulloch pleaded guilty of the same offence, and having been twice discharged recently, was fined 30s, in default twenty-four hours imprisoment. A final meeting of the Farm ami Garden Show Committee was held on Wednesday evening, at which were present —Messrs Steward (chairman), 11. Hi Sccretan, J. Cochrane, Ward, Molloy, Stemson, Clear, Joseph Ninel, James Nin 1, and W. A. Collins.. A balance-sheet was laid on the table, showing a credit balance of £l3 10s Gd. This was considered highly satisfactory. A number of accounts were passed for payment, and it was decided that prizes should be payable within certain hours, from Saturday 15th to the 211th inst. (inclusive). Several matters of detail were discussed, votes of thanks passed, add the meeting terminated.
