MILITARY EXERCISES.

[By Temgeaph.j • Wanganui, April 11. ■ A night attack by the Wanganui Biflos, the City Bifles and Naval Brig ade, commanded by Capt. Hutchison, was a great success. They attacked the Cavalry camp which they took complex dy by surprise and were declaredvictc >rs by Major' Pitt. This morning a sham fight took place in which, the town comj >anies of the Wanganui Bifles, City Rifle sand Naval Brigade were the attacking party, and the visitors, the H. Battery (Nelson Artillery), the Nelson City Rifles, the Stokp (Nelson) Rifles, the Wahnea (Nelson) Rifles, the Nelson Naval Brigade, the Patea Rifles and two cavalry corps (the Alexandra and Warroas) were the defenders. Capt. Wait of the Wanganui Rifles was in command of the attacking party and the home forces were under the command of Major Pitt.'" Watt took position after position finally driving the defending party back to their quarters when a truce ■was sounded and terms arranged. The attendance of the public at the sham fight was rather thin as tbore'had been no publicity given to the hour, through the nonpuhlicotion of newspapers. A grand review was hold which was, throughout, a most brilliant success. There were between 4000 and 5000 people on the ground, the grand stand on the course being more densly packed than ever before—the great feature the review was the brilliant charge made by the cavalry, who charged almost upon the infantry both at file firing and in squares. The weather held up capitally.
