C.J.C. AUTUMN MEETING. Christchurch, April 10. The weather held up to-day for the races, and there was on the whole a very fair attendance. Three totalisators were at work, two outside the saddling paddock and one inside. The events were as follows: — Free Handicap. Mr Cutts’ Nautilus, 4yrs, 7st 121 b (J. Thomson) 1 Mr Hereford's The Joker, 4yrs, 6st 71b ... ... (Hawkins) 2 Mr Fraser’s Betrayer, 3yrs (Wattle) 3 Volunteer also ran. After two break-aways the lot were dismissed to a capital start, Nautilus being quickest on his legs, with The Joker second, Volunteer third, and Betrayer last. At the rails The Joker came through, but he could not get quite upj ■ and was beaten by a head, Betrayer being a bad third. Time—lmin. 47£secs. Great Autumn Handicap. The Hon. W. Eobinson declared to win with Salvage. Time—2min 41|sec. Champagne Stakes Mr Hereford's ch f Nonsense, Bst Blb (Hickton) 1 The Hon. W. Bobinson’s ch f Iris, Bst Blbs (Usrritt) 2 The Hon. W. Mr O’Brien’s hr c Tasman, by St. Albans—Gillot, 3yrs, Bst 61b 1 The Hon. McLean’s Legerdemain, gst 41bs. ... _ 2. The Hon. W. Robinson’s Caasivelannns, Sat 11b 3 Tasman won easily by a length. THIS DAY. [By Telegraph.] The Great Autumn Meeting was continued to-day, but the weather was very wet, and the attendance small. Nursery Handicap. Mr Hereford's Siesta, Bst 121 b (Harris) 1 Mr Robinson’s Vanguard, Bst 71 b (Derrett) 2 Mr Fraser’s Leonora, 7st 21b (Sturgess) 3 Bayard, Free Lance, Turquoise, Welcome Jack, Teata, and Dons also ran. Betting—s to 4 against Siesta, 3to 1 Vanguard and Welcome Jack. Teata got the best of a bad start, but Welcome Jack left her at the post. There was a splendid race between Siesta and Vanguard up to the straight, resulting in favor of the former by half a length. Turquoise finished as fourth . Time—lroin. 6secs. Great Easter Handicap, Mr Lee’s Emir Bey, 6st 9lbs (Sturgess) 1 Mr Fraser’s Betrayer, Bst (Wattie) 2 Mr Robinson’s Envy Filly, 6st 9Hbs, » (W. Butler) 3 It was a grand race throughout, and was won by a short half length, Emir Bey running Gibs, and Envy Filly 9Hbs, overweight. Time —Imin SO^-secs. Selling Race.
