: The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board .was held laste.yenmg,. Present— Messrs Chisholm, (Chairman), Slitter, 'Clulee, Belfield, LeOrenj and Rev. W. Gillies. The Rector, Mr Dawson, was also present. MINUTES, The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed after a protest had been raised by Mr Gillies, supported by other members, against the insertion in the minutes of any other business than resolutions. Mr Clulee was tendered a vote of thanks for' his honorary sendees during the last.month. . ;■ ui rector’s report. .. .. - The Rector’s report for tfye past month was read shewing the attendance to be 128—72 boys and 66 girls, an increase of two during the month. The report having beeh considered, it was resolved—“ That Mr Walton be paid in future £250 per annum to date from April 1,” and “That Mrs Parson’s salary be paid from the Ist March. TERMS OR QUARTERS ? , Mr LeOren moved, and Mr Belfield seconded—“ That the High School be worked under terras, instead of quarters as heretofore, the change to take effect at once." After a long discussion the motion was carried. SCHOLARSHIPS. Mr Ward, of Waimate, requested the Board to remit the fee for his sou, he being of exceptional diligence and ability, and having been unable to compete for a High School scholarship. The application was not entertained. RESERVES. It was reported that titles were being obtained to the reserves, and they were being registered under the Land Transfer Act’ , Accounts amounting to £144 were passed for payment. NOTICES. Mr Gillies mentioned that he intended bringing up the subject of the physical training of girls andtho following notices of motion wore tabled: —His ■Worship the Mayor to move : —(1). “ That the resolution fixing the ago of pupils competing lor uio Board’s scholar ships at 15, be rescinded, and that in future all pupils of the school be allowed to compete, irrespective of their ages.” (2). “That uhen any scholarships are not taken up, a fresh competition bo hold, open to pupils of the High School.” Mr Gillies to move—" That one of the lapsed scholarships bo given to Master Ward."
