The Chairman stated that the.custom hitherto had been to close the 1 school on the Thursday evening prior to Good Friday, and re-open on ■ the Monday week. 1 It Was moved by Mr Gibson, seconded by Mr Jones, and carried—“ That the usual Easter holidays be given this year.”-.; ■■ ’ ; L -!■ INCIDENTAL’AtLOWANCE. The Chairman went into figures and showed that the incidental allowance, as at present received, was wholly inadequate ; as, in addition to janitor’s stipend, there were various necessaries to be obtained, and as the winter was coming on when the, expenses would be much heavier, the Committee would, if they were not very careful, run into debt. The janitor had told him that he could not possibly live on a £ smaller stipend than that he was nowreceiving, viz., £BO per annum, and a cottage. It was for the Committee to decide what action to take. ’ He had thought of dismissing the janitor and employing labor, to ; clean the school, hut, on further consideration, he had felt that the school premises would, in thot case, be much damaged.. He had therefore come to the conclusion that it’Would be better for the Committee to resign the management into the hands of the Board.
Mr Gibson thought it would be better to go on quietly, and'if they found themselves Unable: to'manage. after a time they might then ask the Board for increased supply, and if the Board demurred to granting such increase they coulddhen resign.' It was finally decided to defer the matter to next meeting.
After passing sundry small accounts, the meeting adjourned. Messrs. Bezzant and WalCbt are the Visitors for the Main, and Messrs Gibson And Jones for the - Side School.
